BCU announces local course dates

The BCU has announced a couple of local dates for its kayak fishing safety courses, The courses will be running on August the 12th and August the 19th at Wimbleball Lake. The cost will be £60 and for that you'll get to spend a day with myself and Sam Roberts, a Level 5 Sea Coach from Bude. We'll be running you through the foundation material that you'll need to enjoy a day's kayak fishing. The course starts off a with an indoors kit session, where we'll talk about safety kit, and what to wear on your kayak, and then moves on to cover some of the basics of navigation, such as tides and weather. We'll then move onto the lake, where we'll look at forward paddling, turning, edging and other control skills with your kayak, before going on to practice rescues. While on the lake we'll also take you through the theory on anchoring, including how to set up your boat, and you'll then get a chance to have a go at deploying and recovering an anchor yourself.
Please feel free to bring along your own kayak for the day, but if you've yet to make up your mind on buying a boat, together with AS Watersports we can offer boat hire for just £30 for the day. It gets even better because if you do hire a kayak from AS, you'll get a coupon which gives you your £30 back if you decide to go ahead and purchase a boat from them. If you're interested in attending one of the courses, then please contact me vai emial, and I'll send over the course details and booking information, you can either contact me via the booking or contact tab on this page.
